Mentoring sessions
Confident teams.
Healthier cash flow.
Credit control mentoring that's built around your team, not a textbook.
Not every business wants to hand credit control over completely, and you shouldn’t have to. If you’ve already got someone looking after your ledger, the real opportunity is making them brilliant at it.
The Credit Lab works alongside your existing team, sharing the skills, structure and confidence that turn hesitant invoice-chasing into a smooth, reliable process. We’ve done the job ourselves for years, so we don’t teach from a textbook, we teach from experience, and we tailor everything to your people, your customers and your ledger.

What to expect
Real skills.
Real confidence.
Mentoring built around your team
We start by understanding where your team is now, then build practical, hands-on sessions around the gaps that matter most. From raising invoices and reviewing the ledger to handling the trickier conversations, we cover the full cycle, with our prompt, polite, persistent approach woven through every session. No jargon, no generic slides, just useful support your people can put to work straight away.
The difference it makes
A well-supported team chases with confidence rather than dread, keeps on top of the ledger instead of letting it drift, and brings debtor days down without damaging a single customer relationship. The result is steadier cash flow, fewer awkward write-offs, and a finance function that finally feels in control, run by your own people, backed by our expertise.
Who it's for
Mentoring is ideal if credit control currently sits with someone who finds it uncomfortable, if you’ve got a new finance hire to bring up to speed, or if you’re a growing business building the function properly for the first time. We support teams in businesses from VAT registered through to around £15M annual turnover, and because we work remotely as well as in person, distance is never a barrier.
Why choose
The Credit Lab?
We’re not trainers who’ve only read about credit control, we’re practitioners who do it every day. That means the guidance we share is grounded in real ledgers, real conversations and real results, not theory. We treat your team the way we’d treat our own: patiently, honestly and with genuine care for their confidence as well as their skills.
Mentoring is one of three ways we help. If you’d rather hand the whole thing over, our end-to-end credit control service manages the full cycle for you, and if you simply want a fresh pair of expert eyes, our one-off and regular discovery reviews pinpoint exactly what’s holding your cash flow back. Whichever route fits, the goal is the same: prompt, polite, persistent credit control that protects your cash flow and your customer relationships.
Frequently asked
questions
Bringing in outside support for your team is a considered decision, so we’ve answered the questions businesses most often ask before they get started, to help you decide with confidence.
What do the mentoring sessions cover ?
Sessions are tailored to your team, but typically cover the full credit control cycle: keeping invoices and statements accurate and on time, reviewing the ledger effectively, well-timed reminders, confident chasing, handling disputes and difficult conversations, and building a consistent process. We shape the content around where your team needs the most support.
Who are the sessions for ?
Anyone responsible for getting your business paid, whether that’s a dedicated credit controller, a finance or accounts team, an office manager who’s picked up the task, or a business owner doing it themselves. They’re just as valuable for bringing a new hire up to speed as for sharpening an experienced team.
How is the mentoring delivered ?
We work both in person and remotely, so we can support your team wherever you’re based, our furthest client is 180 miles away. Sessions are practical and interactive, built around your real ledger rather than generic examples.
How many sessions will we need ?
That depends on your team and your goals. Some businesses want a focused one-off session to fix a specific issue, others prefer ongoing, regular support as their team grows. We’ll recommend an approach after our first conversation, with no pressure to commit to more than you need.
How is this different from outsourcing ?
With mentoring, credit control stays firmly in-house, you keep full ownership and control. We’re there to build your team’s skills and confidence, not to take the work away. If you’d prefer us to handle it all, that’s what our end-to-end service is for.
